I always love walking round the garden especially when the weather has settled a little - it's been dry for just over a week. The magnolias are almost at an end with our newest introduction Daybreak starting to put on a gorgeous colourful show. The rest of the plants with the exception of the Davidia are looking amazing including some of the bedding in the greenhouse which is waiting for the last frost to pass before being planted out.
The Davidia in the picture I bought some 3 or 4 years ago and had high hopes for it but, like so many plants hasn't taken to our heavy wet soils so hasn't really made any growth. The common name for it is the pocket handkerchief which I love however, most specimens take up to 20 years to flower - this newer variety is supposed to flower 3 to 4 years after planting so I'm hopeful that maybe the picture above shows immature handerkchief flowers starting to develop. Will keep you updated.
