Gardens to visit in South west scotland - check website before visiting any garden

  • Logan Botanic Gardens, Port Logan DG9 9ND - South of Portpatrick - a "Royal Botanic Garden of Edinburgh" garden.   A Sub -tropical garden influenced by the Gulf Stream so contains many exotic species not found anywhere else in Scotland.   
  • Threave Gardens and Nature Reserve - Castle Douglas, DG7 1RX Dumfries and Galloway -  a National Trust for Scotland garden.  Extensive estate garden with walled garden and House,   House viewing - phone for timings - 01556 502575   

Gardens to visit in North west scotland - check website before visiting any garden

  • Inverewe Gardens, Poolewe, Wester Ross IV22 2LG.  A typical "Scottish" lochside garden with a large terraced area, a woodland walk with Rhododendrons etc and a great Cafe.   One of many National Trust for Scotland gardens.

Gardens to visit in Central scotland - check website before visiting any garden

  • Drummond Castle Gardens, Muthill, by Crieff PH7 4HN.  A formal Italian -style parterre garden which when viewed from the terrace is in the shape of a St Andrews cross.  Castle not open to the public whilst gardens are open May to end of October.   No coffee shop however "Little Red" within the inner courtyard of the castle provides teas coffees, baking etc to visitors.   
  • Glasgow Botanic Gardens, 730 Great Western Road, Glasgow, G12 0UE This garden is situated in the heart of Glasgow.   Not that large, but nice walks.   The Kibble Glasshouses are the star attraction with a great selection of unusual and exotic plants including Cacti, Orchids, Pitcher Plants and so much more.  
  • The Japanese Gardens at Cowden FK14 7PL were originally developed by Ella Christie who was inspired to create a garden in Scotland in the Japanese style after visiting the Orient.   She employed a female garden designer - Taki Handa to design the gardens and had them built on a seven acre site in the grounds of Cowden Castle, her ancestral home.

Gardens to visit in North East England

  • Harlow Carr Gardens, Crag Lane Harrogate HG3 1QB. This garden is part of the R.H.S. estate and offers pretty much everything you could want in a garden.  Streams, lakes, woodland, wildflower meadows and more.  There is an excellent Garden Centre and Coffee Shop on site.   Free entry to R.H.S. members

Gardens to visit in South England

  • Wisley, Woking, Surrey GU23 6QB is the historic home of the Royal Horticultural Society.  Large garden stretching to 97 Hectares with rock garden, exotic garden, rose garden, world food garden, The Glasshouse, Coffee Shop and so much more.   Bus service to garden from local train station - check website for times.   For me a 5 star garden.
