Whilst in London at Chelsea we took the opportunity to visit a roof-top garden at Canary Wharf. It has been built above a row of shops and coffee shops and has a Polycarbonate roof with quite a few missing roof panels to aid ventilation in warm Summer days. The plants took centre stage however it is also a community space. When we arrived a group of students were lecturing/reciting in front of their classmates in a small open space with seating. At the other end of the structure a group of older people were doing what I assume were their daily Tai-Chi exercises to music. So, a well used space! Under the garden were banks and shops including coffee shops, bakeries etc. to feed the hungry workers in the surrounding office blocks. Lovely baking and a coffee rounded off the morning before catching the Underground back into central London.
